introduction to playwriting

A TUTOR-LED, ONLINE COURSE TO GET YOUR IDEAS ONTO THE PAGE AND READY FOR THE STAGE

ABOUT THE COURSE

This live, tutor-led course introduces you to the skills and knowledge needed to start writing plays. Many other courses deal with the 'theory' of writing plays, but this one gets you putting pen to paper from the very first session and leads you on a journey that ends with creating your own work.

Over twelve weeks of sessions, you will be taught by theatre director and published playwright Ben Humphrey. Sessions topics will include but not be limited to;

- Genre

- Character

- Setting

- Dialogue

- Voice

As well as dealing with the mechanics of writing plays, the course will also offer help and advice on the next stages of your work's life and set you on the road to getting your work produced - after all, a play needs a performance.

HOW IS THE COURSE DELIVERED?

The course will be delivered through our online learning programme portal on TortiveTheatre.com and through twelve live sessions conducted by Zoom.

The online portal will contain details and supporting material for each session and links used throughout the course.

WHAT DO YOU GET AS PART OF THE COURSE?

In addition to the course sessions and tutor time, you will receive:

- Guarantee of small class sizes (maximum of fifteen participants)

- Option to share your work in progress with the class and receive peer feedback. (Not a requirement)

- Submission of your complete play script for detailed feedback from your tutor within a year of course completion, meaning you've got plenty of time to put your new skills into practice.

- Access to the private course forum group where you can chat with other course members and share ideas, thoughts and feedback with one another.
