AUGUST'S WINNER: A Star is Born by Phillip Sheahan
Updated: Nov 14, 2020
When his blind panic passed, Tom’s training kicked in: control your breathing, stay focussed and plan for the best outcome from the situation.
He pictured his father’s face. Proud. “Aim high. Be the first,” was the old man’s mantra, “no one ever remembers who was second.”
Tom had no reason now to apologise for being less than perfect. He looked down and watched the capsule drift ever further away, his safety line floating free in space. He was truly a new star. He was making history.
The first astronaut to be lost in space: never to return, never to be forgotten.
