Echoes of the Past by Patsy Middleton
Eddy and Marian got engaged. She brought him to meet her parents in a village five miles outside Sheffield.
Marian’s father, Jim, brought Eddy to his local and they rolled home at midnight. Eddy hit his bed and immediately fell asleep.
At 6am he woke with a start, an eerie siren sounding in his ears. Then it stopped.
At breakfast, he mentioned the noise.
“Outsiders don’t usually hear it,’ Jim said and explained.
‘In December 1940, German bombs fell on Sheffield. One stray bomb landed in on our church at 6am and the siren sounded. Ever since at 6am it sounds again.'
