A fine new set of blue and silver baubles winked tastefully from Linda’s Christmas Tree. The
mismatched relics gone.
That night Linda sobbed.
In the morning family arrived and admired the decorations adorning the lush green branches. Tim pointed to the headless Santa.
“There’s the one little Snowy chewed”.
Ben nodded towards a crumpled lump of foil dangling from frayed string.
“Mum, I can’t believe you kept one I made when I was five.”
Happy talk of childhood Christmases mingled affectionately with a grown-up present.
Nobody noticed the odd tea leaf clinging to the precious heirlooms hastily retrieved from the bin.
