DECEMBER'S WINNER: The Seal
In the midst of December, I decided to go for a little swim in the North Sea. I headed to the grey-sanded beach, the sky and sea equally monochromous.
In the water, a young seal looked at me, his bright black eyeswide open and inquisitive. I marvelled at his shape, his oblong body and small head, hisdaintyflippers and tail.Merely lookingat him, I felt thewarmth that made him aptfor spending months on endhere, immobile, without ever feeling cold.
Half dazed, whileslowly moving about in the water, it struck me: I am a seal.
