The Understudy by S.T. Hills
David huffs. Over thirty years, he’d been standing backstage behind the curtains. Hoping, waiting, yearning for his moment of fame. He’d diligently studied the plays, countless scripts of drama.
Theatre was his world, his passion. The buzz, the excitement, the rehearsals, and on opening night, the murmur in the audience awaiting the actors.
David assisted with the props when his services weren’t required. He replaced the fake bullets in the Smith and Wesson.
It was a shame because he genuinely liked the guy who played the lead role. Tonight he wouldn’t be the understudy anymore, but the star of the performance.
